CONSTRUCTION AND SUSTAINABILITY COURSES

Construction and sustainability I and II – BA1 | BA 2

Instructor: Dan Bolomey

Assistant: Raphael Schüll

This course consists in teaching the basics in the frame of a global approach to construction, aiming at an elementary yet coherent mastery of techniques in an architectural project. It aims more particularly in the ability to observe and represent construction, knowledge of systems and processes in connection with load-bearing and facade structures, knowledge of technical implementation and understanding of the logic of construction types (constructive geometries, transmission of forces, stability, elementary physics of facades). It also includes an introduction to construction scales (modules, proportions, dimensioning, thicknesses).

Construction and sustainability III and IV – BA3 | BA 4

Instructor: Dan Bolomey

Assistant: Raphael Schüll

On the basis of the knowledge acquired in the first year, this course introduces, through the cutting of the building in characteristical and recognizable elements, the aspects of typology and detail which will enable students to reconstitute the building as a structure and expressive whole. The course thus favors the acquisition of a creative construction method as a component of a coherent architectural language. The teaching favors scientific and technical knowledge that will enable students to take into account the construction facts in a rational, hierarchized and concrete way. It thus gives students the means to introduce the factor of materialization into architectural projects while being aware of the whole range of their complexity.
